July 19, 2023 Barbie Movie Release and Dollar Tree Finds

Image
Happy Wednesday! I hope you all are having a wonderful week.  I can see from Instagram that most of the doll world is gearing up for the release of The Barbie Movie tomorrow.  I'm excited but I will probably wait a week or so to see it.  I love Barbie and all things 1:6 scale, but I am an even bigger Greta Gerwig fan.  Are you planning on seeing it in the theatre? Have you bought any of the merchandise? I've been tempted to buy the Margot Robbie doll but  I really don't want to pay the high price for her.  I will probably wait until I find one second hand or out of the box.  For the budget friendly doll collector, The Dollar Tree in Canada has a bunch of Fashion Doll sized furniture. I grabbed the patio stuff which includes a table, umbrella, side table, lounger and chairs. They also had a pink barbecue that I regret not getting. Someone in a facebook group did a makeover of one with silver paint and it looked fabulous. I'm hoping they still have some next time I go t

April News!

Image
Yay! It's April!  She is sure living up to her name here in SW Ontario, with plenty of showers so far.  Looking forward to the flowers they bring! So much negative stuff happening in the news-world these days, thankfully Barbie made some headlines this week and gave us something positive to look forward to. I know a movie won't fix the world but having something fun to look forward to always brightens my mood :) #TheBarbiemovie headshots were released last week giving us a glimpse of the characters and the amazing costumes. I have to say, Allan is my favourite. Perfect casting with Michael Cera and his shirt/costume is spot on. Also nice to see so many Canadians!! Have you tried the Barbie Selfie AI generator yet? I've had so much fun scrolling through Instagram looking at everyones creations. I hope Mattel keeps this going for a while so I can use it over and over. So much fun. These some of the ones I've done so far :) Moi!  My Mother :) I almost forgot to include the

March News

Image
March is here already! Spring is close, although we have had back to back snowstorms in Southern Ontario. It has been pretty mild winter where I am so I really can't complain. Its going to be nice to get back out into the garden though.  My son and his family moved out last week so I am slowly putting my studio back together.  I had to pack all of my minis up out of toddlers reach. It is nice to start with an empty room and try to achieve an organized and well thought out workspace but I already have stuff all over the place!   I see all of these beautiful craft rooms and workshops on Instagram that are so neat and tidy and totally magazine worthy. I don't know one craft friend who has a totally clean workspace! My worktable is already crowded! I have started adding NEW SHOWS to the Miniature and Doll Show and Event Page. Check it out  Locally here in Ontario, the Miniaturists of Toronto have announced the date for their 2023 show. Saturday October 14th at The Japanese Cultural

Happy New Year

Image
Happy 2023 Wishing all you Mini fans the best year ever!  My goal this year is to try sewing some Retro Barbie clothes. I haven't made outfits in at least a decade and have spent years gathering the perfect fabrics and small prints. I have also been binge watching tutorials on Youtube, especially the ones using recycled or everyday items. I can't believe how many different outfits you can make just using balloons!! My son and his family have temporarily moved in with us so I have had to put my mini making on hold for a few weeks. Too many small parts for toddlers!! I'm still taking custom orders but might not be able to do larger orders until Feb unless its something I have in stock.  I do have some vintage doll stuff on eBay though. (Need to make room for new Barbie stuff and its almost garage sale season!! Getting my wishlist ready) Speaking of Barbie, are you getting excited for the movie coming out? I am. The teaser trailer is hilarious and I hope the movie is just as

Happy December!

Image
Its already half-way through the month!!!!. This Christmas season seems to be approaching way too fast for me this year.  I'm not even done collecting the flower seeds from the garden yet or putting away the lawn furniture.  We haven't had much snow where I am yet and its actually been above seasonal temperature wise. I love the snow but I'll take this at the moment. Do you decorate your doll houses for the holidays? I haven't started my 1:12 scale yet but Barbie's place is all decked out. These candles are made with those little glass jars from Dollar Tree in the crafts area.  I dripped wax into them and stuck a piece of black wire. The label is washi tape

Barbie Spring Hat / Easter Bonnet Tutorial

Image
This is a really easy project you can do for all Doll sizes. This one here is 1:6 scale The centre circle should be slightly smaller than the diameter of the dolls head. Felt stretches so if the circle is slightly smaller you can stretch it to fit.  Cut one circle of felt and 3 or 4 matching circles in a sheer fabric Put it together like a sandwich ( in layers) put dots of glue between each layer.
