Cozy space in 1:6 Scale

Image
You do not need a dollhouse to create a miniature diorama. There are so many possibilities if you think outside the box, although a box is a perfect thing to use.   I love using this antique crate box because it has beautiful natural wood, its sturdy and it has a nice high ceiling for 1:6 scale. I've used it for decades but I am really in love with this weeks diorama. I would love to curl up in that armchair and listen to the turntable while I leaf through magazines.  I love plants and have started growing succulents and cacti in small containers to use in my mini spaces. The Barbie and the Eye painting were done by Alora's Gallery

Happy December - Christmas Diorama

Image
We finally got a little blanket of snow here in Sarnia, Ontario. Enough to put me in the mood to start on my winter Cigar box diorama. Here is the start of it. I still have more to add but its a start :) with Christmas lights added  This is my Christmas diorama that I made inside an old wooden crate.

Decorating my Dollhouse for Fall and Halloween

Image
Autumn is my favourite season to decorate my dollhouse.  This is actually my house made from a couple of old cigar boxes and I think I "play" with this one more than any of my real dollhouses.  I love my dollhouses but sometime I find the walls too restrictive and dioramas have more a little freedom to expand.   These Ghost picks are from Dollarama. They had pumpkins and one other style I can't remember.    The doormat below is made from a sandpaper pad that had a sponge backing. I used a rubber stamp and markers to decorate it.  The jack-o-lantern is made of polymer clay. This one I used a mix of sculpeys but I prefer fimo for these as they do hold the shape a little better. I made a tinfoil ball slightly smaller than the size of pumpkin I wanted. I first wrapped it in a thin layer of cream with a slight bit of orange and translucent and then I covered that with orange mixed with translucent.  I always add translucent to colours I'm using to make...

Making Miniatures with a Cricut

Image
On my current to do list is to learn how to make some decent miniatures on my cutting machines. I've made plenty of books and boxes with my Cricut Explore but I love the idea of designing some fancy chairs and tables.   I have a maker but I have yet to try it for anything other than paper.  If you search Miniatures in Design Space there are a ton of projects for making minis.  Here are the links and blogs that I have felt to be helpful in this ongoing learning process. If you have links that should be here please let me know. Everything Small has some very helpful tips on making furniture with a Cricut including a tutorial on making a miniature machine out of paper. Spellbound Miniatures has a wonderful video series on making furniture and how to size stuff on the cricut to scale. . Checkout the playlist on youtube  Life in Mini has some adorable little projects on her page. I love the industrial coffee table. One Inch Minis by Kris is a great blog with lots of ...

July 19, 2023 Barbie Movie Release and Dollar Tree Finds

Image
Happy Wednesday! I hope you all are having a wonderful week.  I can see from Instagram that most of the doll world is gearing up for the release of The Barbie Movie tomorrow.  I'm excited but I will probably wait a week or so to see it.  I love Barbie and all things 1:6 scale, but I am an even bigger Greta Gerwig fan.  Are you planning on seeing it in the theatre? Have you bought any of the merchandise? I've been tempted to buy the Margot Robbie doll but  I really don't want to pay the high price for her.  I will probably wait until I find one second hand or out of the box.  For the budget friendly doll collector, The Dollar Tree in Canada has a bunch of Fashion Doll sized furniture. I grabbed the patio stuff which includes a table, umbrella, side table, lounger and chairs. They also had a pink barbecue that I regret not getting. Someone in a facebook group did a makeover of one with silver paint and it looked fabulous. I'm hoping they still have som...
