Decorating my Dollhouse for Fall and Halloween

Autumn is my favourite season to decorate my dollhouse. This is actually my house made from a couple of old cigar boxes and I think I "play" with this one more than any of my real dollhouses. I love my dollhouses but sometime I find the walls too restrictive and dioramas have more a little freedom to expand. These Ghost picks are from Dollarama. They had pumpkins and one other style I can't remember. The doormat below is made from a sandpaper pad that had a sponge backing. I used a rubber stamp and markers to decorate it. The jack-o-lantern is made of polymer clay. This one I used a mix of sculpeys but I prefer fimo for these as they do hold the shape a little better. I made a tinfoil ball slightly smaller than the size of pumpkin I wanted. I first wrapped it in a thin layer of cream with a slight bit of orange and translucent and then I covered that with orange mixed with translucent. I always add translucent to colours I'm using to make...

On my current to do list is to learn how to make some decent miniatures on my cutting machines. I've made plenty of books and boxes with my Cricut Explore but I love the idea of designing some fancy chairs and tables. I have a maker but I have yet to try it for anything other than paper. Here are the links and blogs that I have felt to be helpful in this ongoing learning process. If you have links that should be here please let me know. I recently did a few genealogy look-ups and saved a few of the scans to print in miniature. Not the best job but you should be able to adjust them on the printer. Right click to save on a computer. I'm posting these on my facebook page too in a printables album which may be an easier way to save on a mobile. Here are some Bingo sheets I did awhile back

How cute are these Tiny Terrariums from Unique Gardener They are 1 Inch glass and they are available in quite a large variety. I got the Sundew, Hedgehog Cactus and a Venus Fly Trap! I can't wait to get started this weekend. I will post photos and video of the process. Do you have any live plants in your dollhouse? I have potted babies off of spider plants and placed them in the dollhouse for decor in the past. I haven't in my Lundby as I worry about getting any moisture in it. I think these Terrariums would work with both 1:12 and 1/6 Scale.

Fairy Gardens

Do you have a fairy garden? I like to start one from scratch every spring. I do reuse most of my items from the previous year though. This year I am doing one in a raised planter box. Wildlife and weather are the two biggest "threats" to our little cities and villages. One year I was so happy with my fairy town done at the base of a huge tree. Sadly it also became a favourite spot for a neighbourhood raccoon to use as a rest room! Some birds like to flip little things over to get to the insects underneath and squirrels are just jerks and will trample over things like they are invisible. I have found that hanging an aluminum pie pan above the garden deters squirrels a little but they seem to have become used to it after just a week. This year I'm trying a wood-chip base. So far it is keeping the weeds to a minimum. I like to let a few weeds through for some free natural greenery.
